What is LANAP®?

LANAP® stands for “Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure” and offers a more comfortable treatment alternative to conventional surgery with faster recovery. It is the only scientifically, research proven methodology that results in true periodontal regeneration, new bone growth and gum tissue reattachment.

True Regeneration™

The LANAP® Protocol is the world’s first and only FDA clearance for true periodontal regeneration based on human histologic studies using the PerioLase® MVP-7™, a free-running pulsed Nd:YAG laser.

No other laser device or therapy has human histologic studies that show periodontal regeneration – true regeneration of the attachment apparatus (new cementum, new periodontal ligament and new alveolar bone) on a previously diseased root surface when used specifically in the LANAP® Protocol.

LANAP uses your own biological healing process to achieve true regeneration. No stitches, membranes or bone grafts involved!

How the LANAP® Protocol works

You can’t change physics! The success of the LANAP® Protocol is rooted in laser physics and the unique interaction between the tissue in the mouth and the variable pulsed wavelength of the PerioLase® MVP-7™ 1064 Nd:YAG dental laser.

The 1064 wavelength passes through water and hydroxyapatite but is absorbed in melanin and hemoglobin. Simply put, the wavelength targets the diseased tissue without harming healthy tissue. 

The laser light penetrates 4 mm beyond the tissue surface to effectively kill bacteria. Once the site is clean, the laser interacts with the hemoglobin to establish a stable fibrin clot, creating a closed and sealed system for regeneration to begin.

A native of north San Diego County, Dr Saper graduated from UC San Diego and then the UCLA school of Dentistry. He went on to Study Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopedics at St Louis University and continued his training with additional specialized experience in the treatment of complex surgical cases in conjunction with the University of Illinois Department of Oral Surgery. These cases brought an appreciation of a team approach to patient treatment.
